Change Team:
Girls' K-2 Lacrosse Program
by posted 03/18/2020

Dear Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grade Girls' Lacrosse Parents,

Welcome back to those returning from last year and welcome to the new families joining us for the first time! Our numbers are fantastic with over 100 players registered in just K-2 alone!

As you likely read in NCLA's communication last week, all NCLA practices, games and events are postponed until further notice. While we typically aim for a start date of March 30 (if the fields are open), we are obviously in a holding pattern until we have more information regarding the spread of the COVID-19 virus.  Nonetheless, with a hopeful mindset, we wanted to share with you the format of the K-2 Girls Lacrosse Program for your planning.

Goal:

The goal of the NCLA Girls’ K-2 program is to place each player in the situation that gives her the best chance to learn the game, improve and have fun in the process. We follow the US Lacrosse LADM model which provides our girls the chance to learn and play lacrosse at an age appropriate level. We will focus on teaching the fundamentals of the game including stick handling, cradling, passing and catching all in a positive and fun environment to help build each player’s confidence.

Practice Schedule:

When we get the green light, practices will be held on Saturdays from 10-11am at Saxe Fields 3 and 4 (closest to the playground).

Practice Format:

The K-4 New Canaan Youth Lacrosse program is a parent-run program. Please know that there will be a point person at each age level leading the group. All parents with a child participating in the program are needed to make this program run for our young players. As such, each family will be asked to help at a minimum of 2 practices throughout the season. Trust us that it is a lot of fun!

Experience is not necessary but a positive attitude and a willingness to help will go a long way!

Grade Coordinators:

Your main point of contact throughout the season will be your Grade Coordinator.  You are in great hands!

Kindergarten:  Maria Magliacano --

1st Grade:   Lauren Erickson –

2nd Grade:  Cameron Buzzeo –

Maria, Lauren, and Cameron will organize the schedule of Parent Volunteers for each practice throughout the season and will share the practice plan in advance.  It is the parent’s responsibility to find a substitute if they are unable to make their assigned date(s).

Equipment:

All players will need a girls’ regulation stick. Lacrosse goggles and mouthguard are optional since we use softer balls at these practices.  If you would like to purchase goggles, we recommend the STX 4-sight (*Please note US Lacrosse changed the safety requirements for women's and girls' lacrosse eyewear in January of 2020. Eyewear must be SEI certified and meet the ASTM Standard F3077-2017.)  We recommend the following sticks for this age group (they are lighter weight and have a shorter shaft), in order to help with skill development and hand-eye coordination:

·       Warrior Warp Junior Stick

·       STX Lily Complete Lacrosse Stick

·       Under Armour Futures Complete Lacrosse Stick

In this time of uncertainty, we appreciate your flexibility and patience. We will update our website (nclax.org) as more information becomes available and will send along K-2 program-specific updates as we learn them.

In good health, NC Pride!
