Thank you for your participation in the Cochran Classic. This jamboree was started many years ago to encourage the game of lacrosse among our youth and to end the season on a positive note. It is the sole intent of the New Canaan Lacrosse Association for this event to be “all about fun” for our boys. We hope you enjoy the theme of the tournament.
Some helpful guidelines for the day-
Locations/Times: All games will be played at the New Canaan High School Fields.
Inclement Weather: Games will be played in the rain. If there are thunderstorms or lightning in the area, games may be delayed or cancelled. Please call the New Canaan fields hotline (203-594-3610) on Sunday morning before leaving for the Jamboree to check for weather cancellations. Information will also be posted on the NCLA website (NCLAX.ORG). The Jamboree will only be cancelled in the unlikely event the fields are closed for the day. There is no rain date.
Game Format: Consistent with CONNY rules, all games will be cross field 8v8 format (2 attack, 3 middies, 2 defense,1 goalie). Games are 30 minutes each with a running clock. Play begins and ends on the referee's whistle. Coaches should advise players to keep playing until the referee stops play.
IMPORTANT: There will be a five (5) minute transition time between games. Please exit the field quickly after the end of each game. Prior to a game, please be prepared to line up in positions as soon as possible. The game clock will start & stop when the air horn is blown.
On-Field Coaching: We recommend 3rd & 4th grade coaches remain on the sideline. But there is flexibility so, if necessary, coaches are allowed to come on the field to help coach. Please speak with the referee before the game starts if coaches think they need to be on the field.
Minimum Pass Rule: There will be no minimum pass requirement, however coaches are encouraged to implement their own limit if their team has a four (4) or more goal lead.
Coaching Advisories: Opposing coaches should consult jointly with the referee prior to the start of each game to clarify any rules that are in question and the referee’s interpretation thereof.
General Rules: no long pole defense: CONNY Rules - no sticks to exceed 52"; no one handed stick checks - considered a slash; no hitting: In accordance with CONNY rules, hitting is not allowed in any form. Multiple infractions may result in the suspension of an individual or an entire team from further tournament play.
Penalties: There are no man-up plays. The referee will determine the method for serving penalties and agree with the coaches prior to each game. This may include forced substitution or fast breaks.
Parking: The New Canaan Police Department will assist with parking, however please see the attached map for a general overview of parking areas. If parking at New Canaan High School becomes constrained, visitors may need to park across the street in the South School parking lot and follow the cross walk to the high school.
